Crystal Light Optimization Guide for MSFS based on the GPU that you have [RTX 3060 TI, RTX 3080, RTX 4060 TI, and RTX 4090]

Here is a simple way for you to optimize your system for Microsoft Flight Simulator based on the GPU you have. We will go through the settings for RTX 360 TI, RTX 380, RTX 4060 TI, and RTX 4090. In cases you have a different GPU you can probably interpolate between two of these settings to get your base optimized setting from where you can further tweak.

A great VR experience has always been subjective, however, most people find that for the Microsoft Flight Simulator which is generally more demanding graphically, anywhere from 35 to 60 frames per second is comfortable. This setting guide aims to keep the frame rate within these ranges while not reducing the overall resolution of your Crystal Light.

Note: We assume that your CPU and RAM are roughly in league with your GPU and that you're not running a fifth-generation i3 along with a 4090 GPU and 8 GB of RAM for example.

Step 1.

Go into the Nvidia control panel, and under 3D settings ensure that Image Sharpening if you have it is set to 0.25. You will find that this setting improves the clarity of very distant objects dramatically.

Next, scroll down and ensure that the Power management mode is set to Prefer maximum performance.

Remember to click Apply afterward.

Step 2.

Set the PimaxPlay Refresh Rate to 120 HZ.

Leave Render Resolution, etc. on maximum.

Step 3.

In PimaxXR ensure that Lock to half framerate has been set.

Step 4.

RTX 4090

For RTX 4090 use the following setting:

  • In MSFS enable Fixed Foveated Rendering in OpenXR toolkit onscreen display using control and F2 to enter the menu.

  • Set the Outer ring size to 60%

Then set the settings referring to this picture:

RTX 4060 Ti & RTX 3080

For RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3080 use the following setting.

  • In MSFS enable Fixed Foveated Rendering in OpenXR toolkit onscreen display using control and F2 to enter the menu.

  • Set the Outer ring size to 50%

Then set the settings referring to this picture:

RTX 3060Ti

For 3060 Ti do the following steps:
  • In MSFS disable Fixed Foveated Rendering in OpenXR toolkit onscreen display using control and F2 to enter the menu.
  • Set the Outer ring size to 50%
  • Set Middle resolution to 1/4
Then set the settings referring to this picture:

You are supposed to get decent visuals with these settings.

You can improve visuals further by using third-party tools such as AutoFPS: https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS

Almost all of Microsoft Flight Simulator frame rate optimization comes down to the "in sim" VR settings and what you're willing to sacrifice in terms of quality to achieve the frame rate you desire.
