Aiming for maximum field of view while maintaining 50 PPD clarity, Pimax has launched a new optical engine for its Crystal Super. Based on the 50 PPD QLED optical engine with glass aspheric lenses, the new 'Ultrawide' brings unprecedented clarity and an ultra wide field of view to the VR market.
Introduce Crystal Super Ultrawide
The Crystal Super comes with a changeable optical engine, an innovation by Pimax to ensure more modularity, easier replacements of parts or upgrades, and cheaper repairs. The headset with the 50 PPD QLED optical engine has started shipping in early April, and now another option is introduced.
The Ultrawide optical engine features the same QLED panels and lenses as the 50 PPD optical engine, but slightly tweaks their position, and lowers the stereo overlap from 105° to 90° to achieve a larger horizontal field of view, going from 127° to 140°. The clarity is still 50 PPD and the edge to edge clarity is unchanged. It's thus a great option for users who prioritize peripheral vision.

Key features include:
-
50 PPD clarity maintained across the expanded 140° of horizontal FOV.
-
Undistorted edge-to-edge visuals due to precise lens alignment.
-
Compatibility with the modular design of the Crystal Super series.
Try out program: A unique approach to modularity
Pimax is rolling out other optical engines, including the upcoming 57 PPD QLED and a micro-OLED variant for users seeking a balance between field of view and pixel density.
Pimax will soon offer an unprecedented trial program for pre-order customers. Users can apply to test the Ultrawide optical engine, the 57 PPD QLED, or the Sony micro-OLED engine for a nominal deposit and shipping fee. This program ensures users can experience the full potential of Pimax’s innovative designs before committing to a purchase.
