The Crystal Super comes with a changeable optical engine, an innovation by Pimax to ensure more modularity, easier replacements of parts or upgrades, and cheaper repairs. The headset with the 50 PPD QLED optical engine has started shipping in early April, while the micro-OLED and 57 PPD QLED optical engines are shipping soon as well.
At the end of May, we announced another option; the Ultrawide. This is a variant of the 50 PPD QLED optical engine. The Ultrawide optical engine features the same QLED panels and lenses as the 50 PPD optical engine, but slightly tweaks their position, and lowers the stereo overlap to achieve a larger horizontal field of view. You can see this explanation in more detail in our video:
We want to offer a solution for users who have already received their 50 PPD QLED Crystal Super. But for clarity's sake, we go over all three situations below.
#1: Users who have already received their Crystal Super
Since we announced the Ultrawide optical engine, some 50 PPD users mentioned they would have preferred this option, yet have already received their headset now — and have been using it for several weeks or months.
For these users, we do want to offer an option to swap these optical engines, both to make use of the modular nature of the Super, as well as to make sure pre-ordering is beneficial. And so, for users who have already received their Crystal Super, we provide two options:

Purchase the Ultrawide optical engine, for a discounted price of $399 USD. You will get an additional optical engine and you can change the modules as you please.

Apply to swap your 50 PPD QLED optical engine with a brand new Ultrawide optical engine. You need to return the original 50 PPD optical engine after receiving the Ultrawide optical engine.

#2: For users who have purchased a Crystal Super, which hasn't shipped yet
Crystal Super orders that haven't shipped by June 10, 2025 can change their order to the Ultrawide for free. You can do this by contacting our customer support here, or use the chat function (in Pimax Play or on pimax.com) during our operating hours. Once your order has started shipping, the option to change your optical engine is no longer available.
Good to know: The Ultrawide version will be shipped in the order of the original order when it is officially delivered, starting from July 2025.
