Pimax's measures to mitigate the impact of the US tariffs

The trade war between the United States and China is something we do not like to see. We believe in a connected world — regardless of whether it's real or virtual — where we freely share everything, from messages to images to physical goods. Connections enrich us all and make our lives better.

But the fact is that the tariffs — at this moment in time — are here. Another fact is that China plays a significant role in the global technology manufacturing landscape. Not only is a huge part of the world's equipment manufactured in China, but also the parts that make up these devices, as well as the machines that make these parts. This is also true for all VR headsets, even those that are assembled elsewhere.

We want to minimize the damage done to users in the US as much as possible, and below want to address six points.

1. Pimax will bear the costs of tariffs on any Crystal Super orders from before February 4th

As we have said before, we want to make sure pre-ordering is always beneficial and we thank you for your support. 

For any orders with an address in the United States from before February 4th, 2025, Pimax will take on the extra costs incurred by recent events. This is not to say the amount of pre-ordered Crystal Super's is insignificant. After the success of the Crystal Light, the Super is set to become Pimax's most successful headset. But we want to do what is right for our users.

However, we want to highlight that these orders will be slightly delayed as we're planning to use bulk shipments to local warehouses, before going to individual customers. This will delay delivery by approximately 20 days. 

Some orders have already shipped by parcel and will arrive within a few days. These shipments will likely be hit by tariffs, and Pimax will take on these costs. If you have had to pay for any extra costs, please contact our support to reimburse the costs.

2. For the orders between February 4th until today, we charge a $75 USD Regional Surcharge

For any Crystal Super orders with an address in the United States from between February 4th 2025 and 12:00 GMT April 10th 2025, we will also use bulk shipments to local warehouses in the US, before shipping to individual users in the US. 

Pimax will bear any extra costs, but we will charge users an additional $75 USD Regional Surcharge to, for a small part, offset our increased fees.

As with the above situation, due to the method of shipping used, the delivery will be slightly delayed compared to the original estimate.

3. Starting today, orders in the US will ship without additional tariffs, but have a $95 USD Regional Surcharge, and will start shipping from the start of June

Pimax fully owns its factories. We do not outsource production, meaning we are more flexible in rearranging our supply chain. We already have offices in California and Delaware, and in both states explored options to set up production capability. At the end of last year, we already prepared to set up a medium-sized factory in Delaware, anticipating import restrictions. This setting up of the factory is a process that is now sped up by recent changes. 

We already have set up three factories in China, so we are experienced in setting up and operating new production facilities. Plus our headsets are especially suitable for this as they're highly modular and made with repairability in mind —  with a changeable optical engine, removable backstrap, removable front cover, replaceable face mask, and more components.

Key parts of the headset will ship from China, but other parts (such as packaging) will be created with local partners, as well as final assembly. All new orders in the United States will be assembled in this factory. Yet this needs time. These orders will start to ship in June, from within the United States.

However, we must charge a $95 Regional Surcharge to offset the increased costs in logistics, labour and operations. The actual costs are higher, but Pimax will burden part of this as well.

4. For all new orders starting today, we have updated our Prime costs

Effective immediately, we are changing the base price of the headset to $799 USD. The total price of the headset does not change, meaning that after receiving the headset for 14 days, you can pay the remaining $885 USD through Pimax Play with Prime. You can pay this at once, or across 24 months.

This change is effective immediately and other currencies are also slightly changed, further lowering the cost to try out the headset. In any case, please make sure to carefully check your currency on the Pimax website.

If you have already ordered the Crystal Super (before April 10th 12:00 GMT), this new pricing structure does not affect you.

5. Orders are free to cancel before shipping, plus 14 day try-out

Despite the situation changing from day to day, we will implement the actions discussed above. That said, since the situation keeps changing, we would like to highlight that before your Crystal Super is actually shipped, we will do an address confirmation. At that time, you're still free to cancel your Crystal Super order, free of charge for any reason.

Secondly, because the headsets come with a 14 day try-out window (Prime), you can still return the headset for a full refund. 

Both options mean that you can always judge the most recent shipping estimate and additional costs on your order and cancel or refund, and both options mean that you can still pre-order the Crystal Super risk-free.

6. Final Notes

• Other countries do not face a delay in shipment or Regional Surcharges.
• We do give users in the US the option, that if you want to receive the product as soon as possible (within 3-5 working days), we can choose international express delivery. But you will have to bear the corresponding tariff costs, and these are, in this case, non-refundable with Prime. (But Prime costs are refundable.) If you wish to use this method, please contact our customer support.
• If you wish to change the address of your order (e.g. Because you have relatives or friends in another country), please contact our customer support.

The tariffs will increase costs for users in the United States and delay the shipment of many orders, but we will also make appropriate adjustments to minimize the effect of these by taking whatever measures are within our capacity.
