Q&A

  • Does this come with base stations? Can I play without base stations?

No, base stations are not included, unless bought with the player kit. However, many VR games, particularly simulations such as driving and flying, do not require base stations or VR controllers and can be played with peripherals such as a keyboard, gamepad, HOTAS, steering wheel by setting the headset to 9-Axis tracking. However, games which require room scale and moving your arms, such as Beat Saber, require the use of base stations and controllers.

  • Is this a wireless headset? How does it connect to a PC if not?

No, the 5K Plus requires the included two-in-one DisplayPort and USB cable to be connected to a VR capable computer to function. It is not wireless.

  • Is this a standalone headset or does it require being connected to a PC? Can I use a non-Windows OS?

No, this isn’t a standalone headset, and you must use Windows. The 5K Plus is designed to be connected to a Windows 10 or 11 PC via the included cable and cannot be used with other OS.

  • Can I play normal Steam games with the 5K Plus?

Yes, you can play normal Steam games in the 8K X. This can be done via the built in Steam theater player by launching your VR headset and then the non-VR game you wish to play, or via Virtual Desktop or Big Screen for more options. This will make the game display inside of the VR headset.

  • Can I use Oculus controllers or cameras for tracking? About what Windows Mixed Reality or PlayStation?

No, the 5K Plus is only compatible with SteamVR base stations and controllers, such as the HTC Vive Wands, Index Controllers, or Pimax Swords. It cannot be used with any other controllers or form of tracking.

  • Can I use the KDMAS or DMAS speakers with the 5K Plus?

You can use the 5K Plus with the KDMAS, but not the DMAS. However, the 5K Plus does not come with the Standard Modular Audio Strap, which is required for use of the KDMAS. If you wish to use the KDMAS to enhance your audio experience, buy the Modular Audio Headstrap(KDMAS) version and not the KDMAS headphones by themselves.

  • My Laptop has USB ports, but only HDMI and no DisplayPort. Can I still use it with the 5K Plus?

No, HDMI is not compatible with the 5K Plus. However, the headset can be used with laptops if they have a Display Port 1.4 port and meet the minimum system requirements.

Hopefully this will help you.

With an RTX3050 GPU in an Acer Nitro 5, you would think I could drive the Pimax 5K Plus hard enough to make its 5K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 140 degree field-of-view works great!

Must have for flight simmers...and exlient customer service

I had the cv1 prior to this headset and I must say when I first put on this headset I definitely had that wow factor. I never minded the FOV of the cv1 because the immersion of vr was so awesome. Once I tried the 5k I don't think I could ever go back to a small POV. The large POV and the clarity is a must have for flight simmers. Unfortunately the headset I received had 1 dead pixel, it wasn't a big deal but playing IL-2 and DCS scanning for contacts the dead pixel kept catching my eye. I returned the set and the customer service was top notch great communication and fast service I had a new set within a few days I am very happy with the whole process. I was not sure about customer service with an new company like pimax but I am very pleased.

My VR skepticism has been vanquished!

After using a headset liAs an avid flight sim fan, I doubted that VR had come along as far as the reviews I had read were boasting, so I took a leap of faith and dived into the VR fray with my purchase of the PIMAX 5K Plus. All I can say is... ONCE YOU DIVE IN, THERE IS NO TURNING BACK!

After you experience the immersion of sitting in the cockpit, you can't help but keep pushing your experience to its furthest potential by upgrading your HMD with the HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap. If you've been on the fence about making the leap, all I can say is - you won't be disappointed!ke this, it's hard to go back to the narrow "scuba gear" view of other headsets.

Best VR Headset You Can Buy

Coming from Oculus Rift, Pimax 5K+ is simply way better in every segment. The FOV, I would just say it feels so NATURAL. I do sim racing mostly, and it's basically the same FOV you get from wearing a helmet, no more need to turn your head to see the opponents. As to arcade games like Fruit Ninja VR, now you can see every single fruit, which is simply amazing. You do feel the higher resolution and crisper image, but I'd like to confirm that you can see SDE. It's not a deal breaker for me, as I basically forget it once I start playing. Comfort-wise, I recommend getting a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and some 3D-printed adapters. And it does make the headset much more comfortable than Oculus Rift. Tracking-wise, 5K+ works perfectly fine with Vive base stations and controllers. All in all, it's just the best VR experience you can get at this moment.
