Pimax Crystal Super 50PPD/57PPD - For Exchange Only – Not for Sale

I have Pimax Crystal Super 50ppd version.
In Falcon BMS visuals are outstanding, every inscryption every mfd in the cockpit are sharp and clear, colors are vivid. In DCS visuals are similar but fps not such high. My first attempts to increase fps rate in DCS were successful but inscriptions in the cockpit lost its previous sharpness and were blurry. So I wil try to fix it/optimize settings in the future.
Now I am happy playing Falcon BMS, which is my favourite sim.
Only drawback - PCS needs very efficient PC with efficient graphics card.

This Pimax Super wide Fov headset is the bomb. Just be sure to get one you won't be disappointed.
The visuals are stunning in MSFS.

The new Crystal Super 50ppd is very nice and I am only keeping my Artisan to remember what I earlier accepted as ok. I have been working with simulators since 1988 with focus on visual systems. I will evaluate a Crystal Super Sony 8K OLED in one of my coming projects. I ordered one in late September. Pimax Software is a bit unreliable and hopefully it will stabilize over time.

I have had the opportunity to own several high-end virtual reality (VR) headsets, including the Varjo VR-3, XR-4, Xtal 8K, and others, and I can unequivocally state that I am thoroughly enjoying my Super Ultra Wide.

My initial experience playing Half-Life: Alyx with the new "Super" was reminiscent of my first time using the Varjo VR-3 with the same game. However, the "Super" provides superior 3D depth, more vibrant colors, increased brightness, and an overall more enjoyable VR experience. The installation and update process for the software and firmware was very smooth, marking a significant improvement for the Pimax experience—kudos to the Pimax team.

I had initially planned to purchase a Somnium VR1, but I am pleased I waited for the "Super," especially given the cost savings.

Pros:

1. Ease of Setup: Easier to set up and begin using compared to my Varjo XR-4.

2. Visual Quality: Better all-around visuals than my previous headsets.

3. Comfort: Very comfortable, even while wearing my large eyeglasses.

4. Value: Excellent price-to-performance ratio.

5. Early Adopter Perks: Appreciate the complimentary items provided for being an early adopter.

6. Controller Tracking: Controller tracking is quite good.

Cons:

1. Stability Issue: Experiencing some "wobblies" while playing Half-Life: Alyx.

2. Eye Tracking Calibration: The eye-tracking calibration process is slightly confusing.

3. Pass-through Quality: The pass-through feature is currently suboptimal.

4. Controller Design (Wishlist): I would prefer controllers with a more substantial feel, similar to the Valve Index controllers, as I have large hands. This is a preference, not a complaint.

Color Calibration Request:
I intend to use my "Super" for accurate color work. It would be beneficial to have access to a hidden menu or advanced settings for color calibrating the displays using a personal color meter. I understand this might be technically challenging to implement for a VR headset compared to a home theater projector, but it is a desired feature for me at least.

Despite a less than positive initial experience with the PIMAX brand, after purchasing a 5K Super headset in 2022, I was particularly tempted by the option PIMAX offered to upgrade to the 12K model in the future by returning the 5K and adding a price difference. This, as everyone knows, was a bit of a scam, as the 12K project was replaced by many others, leaving that offer gone as if it never existed, leaving me with a headset that turned out to be inferior to the HP Reverb G2 I already owned.
I still wanted to restore my trust in PIMAX, and on November 30, 2024, I placed my pre-order for a Crystal Super, paying €1,174.86 (tax included). I waited patiently for months, and by June 2025, I still hadn't received my headset. Meanwhile, the website was offering the option of accessing the new ultra-wide lenses, so I decided to take advantage of the delay to upgrade my order with these lenses. After a long wait, I finally received the VR on October 3, 2025, after almost a year of waiting since pre-ordering! Installation was relatively simple, and the image quality was remarkable and decidedly superior to my HP Reverb G2, even more so than the Piamx Super 5K. Unfortunately, in my case, I noticed a marked halo on the text that gets worse towards the edges of the scene. Even adjusting the eye relief and a few other settings didn't fix the problem. However, this is less of an issue when viewing moving scenes or areas without high-contrast text. I had other software issues: when the headset is outside the designated area, it starts to behave erratically, freezes, and it's difficult to access the controls to reset both the view and the area, so much so that a reboot is required, and sometimes even that isn't enough. However, once this issue is overcome, the experience is positive. But the troubles aren't over for me. I opened a ticket on October 7th when I discovered that to complete the purchase I would have to pay €898, which, when added to the pre-order, makes a total of €2,072.86. I checked the price for the same headset at the time of the ticket, and including taxes, it came out to €1,937.36, or €135 more, which after waiting 11 months seems almost a joke. I still wonder what advantages pre-ordering almost a year in advance gave me. Today, November 1st, I still haven't received a response to that ticket, so there's no point in saying anything else.
