Pimax Progress Updates is our bi-weekly column in which we share important bits for Pimax users. For questions or comments, reach out to a Pimax representative on Discord, or contact us via our support page.
RTX 50s Series
We can confirm that Nvidia's 50s GPUs are working the Crystal Super — although some users are reporting slight, occasional dips in FPS. Nvidia is aware of this and working on resolving this. Furthermore, some OG Crystal and Crystal Light users are reporting issues with the 50s GPUs, and we are debugging as well as in contact with Nvidia to solve this. (We're confident of solving this soon. There was, for a brief moment of time, the same issue during the launch of the RTX4090, which was quickly solved.)
We have also shared 5090 VR benchmarks here (mostly from Omniwhatever), and the results look very very promising for high-end VR.
Crystal Super Beta test now underway plus updated shipping estimate
The Crystal Super has been tested by hundreds of visitors at CES 2025, and now the external beta test is in an advanced stage. The beta test is extremely useful for us, as these users all have different GPUs and systems, different use cases, and well, different headshapes. Also, at home, they have much more time to test the Crystal Super in long sessions — compared to visitors at CES. Lastly, these users have also agreed to provide detailed feedback reports on all aspects of the headset.
As such, we've gathered lots of useful feedback already. We're happy that their feedback approves of our approach with the Super; to create a high-end PCVR headset with incredible clarity at 29 million pixels. The feedback on the clarity and brightness is all that this is top class.
That said, we did see many visitors at CES as well as the beta testers ask about the 50 PPD QLED version. Many feel the 57 PPD QLED version's clarity can satisfy their demands (and probably go well beyond that), and would prefer to use that resolution over a slightly wider field of view. We have increased the priority of the 50 PPD version. We're testing this version internally now and are very satisfied with the clarity across the whole lens, as previous distortions are eked out. We're now readying our factories to produce these batches first. This also gives us more time to fine-tune and get rid of the edge distortions of the 57 PPD version.
At the same time, we are still making some minor adjustments on the ergonomics. This will help all versions of the Crystal Super (the 57 PPD QLED, 50 PPD QLED, and the micro-OLED), by increasing the comfort by all headshapes as well as stability under movement.
We will come back with a full list of improvements we're making to the headset, and explain why — and also provide a clearer timeframe for shipping these orders.
For now, we're working hard to make this the most incredible VR headset the world has ever seen. Please hang on.
(If you want to change your pre-order from the 50 PPD version to 57 PPD or vice versa, simply contact our customer support with your order or reservation number.)

Tariffs for customers in the US
Earlier this month, the United States government announced a 10% tariff for goods manufactured in China. We are always focused on providing high-end VR headsets for the lowest price, and are doing our best to mitigate the impact of this decision.
- The good news is that the Crystal Light still has stock in warehouses across the United States. If you ordered the Crystal Light recently, you will not be affected by the new tariffs, as your headset is shipped to you within the country.
- More good news is that purchases of the Crystal Light in the short term are also exempt from the new tariff, as our warehouses still have stocks. This is while stock lasts, so if you're planning to order the Crystal Light, we advise you to order as soon as possible.
- In some time, we do need to ship new headsets to these warehouses. Tariffs will apply to this new stock and purchases, and the costs for this will be passed on to customers. (So our recommendation is to purchase the Crystal Light now, while the tarifs don't yet apply.)
- The Crystal Super has not shipped yet, and these orders will be hit by the additional 10% tariff. However, taking in mind the slightly delayed shipping, Pimax has decided to take on the costs of this for all purchases made before February 4th (when the announcement was made) — also as a way to thank our supporters, and to make sure pre-ordering is always beneficial.
- For Crystal Super purchases made after February 4th, there will likely be additional costs, but we are determining the last details for this. Hang on for our next update.
Again, this only applies to customers in the United States. Good to note:
- The 10% tariff only applies to the base price of the headset, not to Prime.
- When applicable; customers will pay the tariff in Pimax Play together with the payment for Prime.
- For repairs or replacement, there is no import tax needed, when swapping your headset, or returning it after repairs. These repairs and swaps are done within the country.
- We cannot comment on resellers. For this, it's best to ask directly to the reseller if tarifs will be applied.
Call for customer feedback
We're still working hard to improve our customer service, but the first improvements are already made. We have our roadmap and will share more about this.
That said, we do encourage everyone when they are in contact with our customer support, to leave a rating (and optional message). Click on any of the stars in the footer of the email (image below). This further helps us to accumulate data on where we can improve more. Thank you for your feedback!
