I upgraded to the Crystal Light from the Reverb G2. I love the clarity of this headset, especially once you dialed in the settings. Cockpit instruments are sharp. Visuals are awesome. I mostly fly helicopters low level in DCS & MSFS so the added image detail both inside and outside the cockpit adds to the level of immersion. The DMAS sound quality is on par with the ones from the G2 which are great. I just wish Pimax made this standard on their headsets. I added a topstrap and new cushions and spacers from StudioForm Creative to customize it to my face shape. Now it fits perfectly and is even more comfortable.
I started my journey with VR a few years back with the Quest 2, Oculus 2 at the time. Stand alone without a computer, I still believe the Quest 2 and 3 are the best option. But I fell in love with sim racing which required a PC. Using the Quest link cable became a real problem. It was overpriced and the third party cables some worked, some were junk none of which lasted long. So, I got the HP Reverb G2, which blowed me away. Using a display cable instead of the single USB cable made a giant difference in clarity and performance and I would probably would have been happy with the G2 from then on. But then I found out that HP was a trash company. The G2 started blacking out from overheating and when I researched the problem, that is when I found out that Windows was planning on pulling the rug from under lazy companies that never bothered to create their own software, instead relying on Windows Mixed Reality. Sure, I was mad angry with Microsoft, but I place the bulk of blame on lazy companies like HP that should have been working on a solution.
At any rate, this is the reason why I purchased the Crystal Light. I must be honest, I didn't really like the price. And I also believe there was a little switch and baiting going on with the initial purchase. The Crystal Light without local dimming was the cheaper version was listed as unavailable (out of stock), while the Crystal Light with local dimming was available for purchase. Yet, after I purchased my head set on Oct 15 and didn't receive it until Dec 1, I'm wondering was it really available for purchase? Ok, that's all the negative I've experienced from the Pimax experience, now for the good stuff.
This headset is unbelievable, comparing this headset with the Q2 and G2 is like comparing and old analog tv to the new 4k versions, it is really that drastic. All this and I'm not even close to getting all I can out of this headset. I currently have a RTX 4070 which bottlenecks the headset a bit, but it still looks and performs fantastic. Assetto Corsa, my main racing simulator looks flawless, but Assetto Corsa Competizione is very demanding so I have to dial back the quality a bit for it to perform, that said I'm still very happy how it looks. With Assetto Corsa EVO releasing soon, the upgrade to Assetto Corsa, I have no idea how demanding it will be on my system, I'm upgrading to the RTX 4080 Super to ensure I can even more performance from the headset.
In closing, this headset is absolutely the best I've ever used and it ain't even close. But you do have a system that can get that doesn't bottleneck it. For reference my system is (Intel I9 12th Generation 32Ram with a RTX 4070). The bottleneck being the GPU.
Crystal Light received and installed (around two weeks from order date) with few issues to replace Reverb G2 on my older system (I7-10700K + RTX 3080). Improvements in contrast, color saturation, resolution are as expected from published reviews. While less comfortable out of the box than the G2, headset comfort issues seem overstated for my application and I find it fully usable as is. Performance using MSFS 2020 is on par with the G2 with negligible impact on frame rates and no new visual artifacts. I'm happy with the purchase, while recognizing that I may want to upgrade hardware in the midterm to better realize the full potential of the headset and accommodate future demands of MSFS 2024 when I start using it. Crystal Light looks like a keeper.
And no.. Pimax didn't pay me to write this.. I actually paid full price for the headset and could not be happier with it.
I upgraded from HTC Vive Pro 2. Mainly because I wanted clarity which no other company can provide currently with superior resolution.
It's soo good.. I feel so much more immersed now in my games thanks to the FOV, hight refresh rate and visual clarity.
Only slight issue, as nothing is perfect, I had to buy the comfort top strap and also invest in some comfort mods from a company based in NZ as my forehead begins to hurt as the headset is a bit front heavy I have to tighten it up a lot in order for the headset not to droop. So if you have the same issue look up Studioform and hopefully th counterweights should sort it.
Software Installation is a breeze, worked 1st time unlike the Vive software which ive always had issues with.
Shipping times can vary so don't have high expectations and think you will get this next day. But they do state that on the website.
One other thing is that customer service is top notch. I always got answers within 24hrs when I was researching and enquiring about shipment updates.
I read a lot of negative stuff on Reddit whilst doing my research before making my purchase. Reddit seems like a negative place where people like to vent in r/pimax which is unfortunate especially if you are looking to get some good feedback about the PCL.
Since I have had this headset, apart from the comfort issue I cannot fault it.
Lastly, if you are thinking about buying this headset just do it. MSFS2024 looks amazing and it's elevated my VR expereince to the next level.
Hope this helps. 👍
Ja was soll ich sagen, hatte die HP Reverb G2 und seid einer Woche die Pimax. Ich bin einfach nur begeistert. Was für ein Bild was für Farben einfach unglaublich Cool. Absolut Geile Sache das Teil.
Upgraded from a G2, as expected the performance of the Crystal Light is awesome…5 stars, few bugs in the software exist, but with help from the tech support staff, my issues were solved within just a few hours. Comfort of the Crystal Light could be better, when I ordered the headset, the DMAS earphone upgrade was temporarily out of stock, so I mounted my Megladon Headphones, they fit perfect to the existing earphone attachment point. To my surprise the side to side headstrap of my Megladon headphones supported the Crystal better and was much more comfortable than the front to back strap. For me, it seems to support the weight better, definitely more enjoyable on those long flights.
My Crystal Light arrived two days ago and I have to say, the image quality is truly amazing! It does require a bit of setup, but the guys and girls at Pimax guide you to every step of the way, what an upgrade, coming from my Reverb G2, very happy!
