Pimax Crystal Super, with its 29 million pixels and ultrawide field of view, is designed for premium experiences. Since everyone’s head shape, facial structure, and comfort preferences differ, it’s hard for any headset to be perfect right out of the box. The good news is that the Crystal Super only requires a few small adjustments to unlock its most comfortable and immersive experience.

Cushions You Might Need
Face Cushions
A proper face cushion can not only improve comfort, but also ensure the best field of view and minimize light leakage.

The face cushion material selection varies depending on strap tightness, head shape, hairstyle, and the type of VR activity.- Velour cushions are soft and cozy, perfect for colder seasons.
- Ice-silk cushions are breathable and cooling, ideal for summer.
- PU leather offers more friction, helping the headset stay in place, though it’s less breathable.
- Thickness options: A thicker cushion can reduce facial pressure, while a thinner cushion brings your eyes closer to the lenses, expanding FOV.
Crystal Super includes a 15mm velour cushion by default, and if you pre-ordered, you also received a free ice-silk cushion. Many users find these perfectly comfortable, though third-party brands also offer cushions in different materials and thicknesses.
If you have more prominent facial features, foam spacer gaskets may help the headset conform better to your face, while also reducing light leakage and maintaining optimal lens distance.
Rear Pad
A properly fitted rear pad significantly improves comfort and stability, creating a “sinking into a sofa” feel.
- Adjustment method: Loosen the top strap slightly so the rear pad cradles the lower part of your head.
- Accessory option: Upgrade to a larger rear pad to increase contact area and stability.
- DIY option: Use multiple spacer gaskets to fine-tune the rear pad angle, aligning it with your occipital bone.
- Mod option: Add a rear pad mod to expand contact surface and reduce the need for frequent knob adjustments.
Side Cushions
Side cushions are optional since they bear little pressure, but for some head shapes, they reduce wobbling during fast head turns.
- The Crystal Super’s side pads are velcro-mounted and easily removable.
- When using spacer gaskets to tweak side support angles, aim to reduce gaps rather than creating a tight seal, leaving a slight cushion helps absorb motion.
Balancing the Headset
Top Strap
Adding a top strap can improve support and reduce forward pressure.
The Crystal Super’s official comfort top strap differs from the OG Crystal design. Instead of rotating on top, the Super’s strap sits fixed on the forehead, similar to Aero’s approach. This ensures consistent placement every time you wear it. Simply tighten the rear dial for fit. This design distributes weight more evenly, reducing facial pressure.
Third-party alternatives also exist, including soft elastic bands, rotatable designs, and forehead-mounted straps. Choose based on your head shape and comfort needs.
Counterweights
Because of the optical module and glass lenses, the front naturally weighs more.
- Some users prefer adding rear counterweights to balance the load and relieve facial pressure.
- Others prefer a snug fit without extra weight to avoid additional strain on the neck.
Third-party options include modular weights in 5oz or 7oz sizes. Creative users have even improvised by attaching everyday items to the rear for balance.
Visual Correction in VR
Crystal Super has ample space to accommodate glasses or contact lenses, allowing you to test your prescription at the beginning. For long sessions, however, prescription lenses are a more comfortable and reliable choice.
