The best VR Survival Games (2024)

If you’re a fan of intense challenges and immersive experiences, VR survival games offer a unique thrill that traditional gaming can’t match. These games thrust you into vividly realistic worlds where every decision counts, and your survival depends on your ability to adapt and conquer. With VR technology, the stakes are higher and the immersion deeper, making each encounter and obstacle feel more immediate and engaging.

Here are some VR survival games we highly recommend:

1. Bootstrap Island

I have played a lot of VR survival games but Bootstrap Island has the best VR survival mechanics I've ever seen. I feel like a marooned pirate actually trying to survive and just, wow. habie147

Bootstrap Island is an intense, realistic VR survival game, inspired by "Robinson Crusoe". As the sole survivor of a 17th-century shipwreck you must quickly learn and adapt to survive against vicious beasts, explore the island and improve your skills to discover the mysteries of the tropical island.

2. The Forest

Most games build for VR usually include a flat ground, pretty boring map ect. But in The Forest, the VR experience is basically limitless. Jumping from tree platforms, seeing how immensely huge the caves actually are, it's amazing. - Reddit

As the lone survivor of a passenger jet crash, you find yourself in a mysterious forest battling to stay alive against a society of cannibalistic mutants. Build, explore, survive in this terrifying first person survival horror simulator.

3.Valheim

Valheim has always been a comfort game for me. Between creating beautiful structures, running for my life from pants-less trolls, slaying gods, and combating the world's greatest threat (giant mosquitos,) I just find it to be so very relaxing. - SpaceCadetKevin

A brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by viking culture. Battle, build, and conquer your way to a saga worthy of Odin’s patronage!

4. Into the Radius VR

Into The Radius continues to be one of my personal favorite VR games simply because of the post apocalyptic aesthetic that it pulls off in VR. - habie147

Into the Radius is a single-player survival shooter in VR. Explore the Pechorsk zone filled with surreal landscapes and dangerous anomalies. Defend yourself with realistic firearms, recover strange artifacts, scavenge for loot, and uncover the mysteries of this unforgiving dystopian environment.

5. Subnautica

This game is a masterpieceI. played through this game in long sessions that kept me at the edge of the seat the entire time. Subnautica makes the player feel like a scientist survivor, and it is more than just a simple survival game, it is actually more like an open world game with survival elements. - Reddit

Descend into the depths of an alien underwater world filled with wonder and peril. Craft equipment, pilot submarines and out-smart wildlife to explore lush coral reefs, volcanoes, cave systems, and more - all while trying to survive.

6. Green Hell VR

Green Hell VR is an insane VR survival game, which I've never seen before in a VR game. This is a brand new kind of gameplay for me and it's really fun. I know it was ported from an original Green Hell game that was flat screen. But it feels built for VR. - habie147

Green Hell VR is an Open World Survival game set in the Amazon rainforest, based on the successful PC title Green Hell. You are left alone in the jungle with no food or equipment. To survive, you must learn real-life survival techniques, and crafting weapons can be a matter of life and death

7. No Man's Sky

It looks fantastic and can be mind blowing at times. I've not played any game in VR with the same sense of scale. For a game not made for VR, it is one of the best VR games out there. - Reddit

No Man's Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe.

8. Survival Nation

Survival Nation is a gigantic VR game that has a funny existence. On one hand, it's the biggest VR survival game I have ever played and works flawlessly. - habie147

An open-world online RPG, survival game designed for VR. In this game, you will kill hundreds of zombies, acquire weapons, learn new skills, craft, explore the world, complete quests, and fight for survival. Choose from three modes: Solo, PVE, and PVP. Will you join a Survival Nation?

9. Song in the Smoke

Beautiful and challenging game of survival. Awesome interactivity, very little hand-holding, great length, evocative world, cool effects, and deserving of a big thumbs-up. - Reddit

Using the power of virtual reality, Song in the Smoke puts your survival directly in your own hands. Enter this dangerous world outside of time, where you must craft weapons, make clothes, build fires, and brew healing elixirs to steel yourself against its vicious predators.

10. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

I could not recommend this game enough, even though it is trademark Walking Dead stressful and sad. But for a Zombie VR game it is perfect. - habie147

Saints & Sinners is a game unlike any other in The Walking Dead universe. Every challenge you face and decision you make is driven by YOU. Fight the undead, scavenge through the flooded ruins of New Orleans, and face gut-wrenching choices for you and the other survivors. Live The Walking Dead.

11. After the Fall

From the team that brought you Arizona Sunshine® comes an epic VR action FPS with intense co-op gameplay at its core. Team up with friends and take on a hostile VR world filled with ferocious undead--mutated and twisted by the relentless cold.

These games also look fantastic on the Crystal Light, which has 2880x2880 pixels per eye, and has glass aspheric lenses, for super high clarity.

Also there will be many awesome VR survival games in the future, and we will continue to update here, so stay tuned!
