Flexible Visual & Performance Optimization for a More Personalized VR Experience
With the latest Pimax Play v1.43.1 update, we are introducing a highly anticipated enhancement for the Crystal series: Horizontal Field of View (FOV) Adjustment.
This feature is now available for:
-
Pimax Crystal
-
Pimax Crystal Light
Especially on the Crystal Super, the benefits of this adjustment can be huge in terms of FPS.
As a key factor of VR immersion, the ideal FOV can vary depending on user facial structure, eye distance, personal preference, and content type. With this update, every user can fine-tune the visual experience to better match their needs.
Two FOV Modes to Choose From
-
Normal mode
-
Narrow mode
The 50 PPD also has a Wide FOV mode.

For instance, switching to Narrow FOV Mode:
-
Reduces horizontal FOV by approximately 10° (varies by user)
-
Vertical FOV remains unchanged
-
Only affects the far-left and far-right peripheral range
-
SteamVR render resolution automatically adapts after switching (Requires a SteamVR restart to take effect)
This adjustment reduces pixel rendering load on the GPU, while maintaining clarity and immersion in the main viewing area.
Improved Rendering Performance and Frame Stability
By reducing peripheral rendering, users may experience:
-
Lower GPU utilization
-
Shorter GPU frame rendering times
-
Higher framerates in more demanding scenes
Internal testing shows:
-
In titles that already reach full framerate, Narrow mode provides additional performance headroom and stability
Narrow mode:
-
In titles below target framerate, Narrow mode can help increase overall performance
