At the official Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 preview event, invited journalists and content creators got their first taste of the highly anticipated flight sim, which releases in November. For its VR experience, Microsoft opted for Pimax, one of the most popular VR brands among flight simmers.

Jörg Neumann, the head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, revealed in a livestream earlier that about 10% to 15% of MSFS2020 players choose to play in VR. MSFS2024 builds on the success of MSFS2020, and one key innovation is its improved performance for Virtual Reality (VR). Meanwhile, in four years time, the VR industry has also made leaps and bounds with improved hardware.

For the event, MSFS opted to use Pimax headsets for the VR experience. Pimax is one of the most popular VR brands among racing and flight simmers, with high-end PCVR headsets with high fidelity and wide FOV. Journalists and content creators used the Pimax Crystal Light, a headset with 17 million pixels and glass aspheric lenses.

Attending media included IGN, Gamestar, Polygon, and more. TheVRPilot, in his video mentioned: "The first thing I asked is when I was invited for this event, is "Do you have VR?", and they had. They let me try the Pimax Crystal Light, and it's absolutely amazing, I got to rock it."

Polman, tried the Pimax Crystal Light as well: "If MSFS2020 looked good, just wait until you see MSFS2024. You will be absolutely amazed by the graphic quality."

Darius Matusiak from GamePressure: "I had the chance to experience flying a helicopter using a dedicated set of controls for cyclic/collective/torque pedals and Pimax Crystal Light VR goggles – and it's truly an improvement."

Sérgio Costa from HeliSimmer used the Crystal Light as well, noting about the game: "The technical advances are staggering. The world looks so much better and alive than before"
