Mods & Customization Options for the Dream Air

Don't let the slim profile fool you — the Pimax Dream Air is still a very modular headset, thanks to the detachable parts such as the facemask, the audio stems, the backstrap, and an additional USB-C interface. There's now a growing community of creators expanding what it can do. Here's a rundown of everything available, from prescription lenses to strap swaps and software tricks.

Prescription Lens Inserts

Not strictly "mods" in the traditional sense, but essential for a lot of users. The good news is you have several options depending on your budget and how precise you need them to be. These inserts swap magnetically onto the Dream Air.

Pimax Official Inserts — Pimax sells their own inserts at fixed diopter strengths directly from their store. Simple, no-fuss, and officially supported.

HonsVR — A popular third-party option for custom prescription lenses made specifically for the Dream Air.

VROptician (coming soon) — Another well-regarded lens insert provider with a strong reputation in the VR community.

3D Printable Lens Insert Frame — If you want to go the DIY route, someone has already designed printable frames for lens inserts compatible with the Dream Air (and the Crystal Super Micro OLED).

3D Printed Mods

This is where things get fun. The community over on Printables has been busy.

Alternative Face Gasket (Max FOV) — Not a fan of the default mask shape? This alternative gasket is designed to maximize your field of view and may suit different face shapes better than the stock option.

Vive Deluxe Audio Strap Adapter — Want to use the beloved Vive DAS with your Dream Air? This adapter makes it possible, bringing better weight distribution and the built-in audio that DAS users love.

Apple Vision Pro Dual Knit Band Adapter — Yes, really. If you happen to have an Apple Vision Pro headband lying around (or just want the premium fit), this adapter lets you mount the Dream Air to it.

Comfort Straps

Studioform Creative Apache Comfort Strap — Studioform has been making aftermarket VR straps for years, and they've got a Dream Air option in their lineup. The Apache strap is designed to allocate the weigh to the top of your head, and uses a clever velcro design.

Software Mods

These aren't exclusive to the Dream Air, but they're particularly relevant for pushing the headset's capabilities further.

3D Depth Boost by Primashock — A clever tool that claims to deliver up to 50% more perceived depth in VR. It's worth checking out if you want to get more out of the Dream Air's already impressive displays. 🔗 https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1s9zdm3/3d_depth_boost_up_to_50_more_fps_in_vr/

AI-Driven Adjustable FOV Profiles — This one is still in development and not publicly available yet, but there's a preview video showing AI-generated FOV profiles that could be a game changer for fine-tuning the experience. 🔗 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnMCCkZGcFw&t=15s

And there's another third-party SteamVR driver coming soon.

Also in Pimax Play you'll find dozens of custimations. VoodooDE takes you through the latest 2.0 version:

So for a headset this compact, the Dream Air has a surprisingly active modding scene. Whether you need vision correction, a better fit, a different strap, or want to push the software side, there are already solid options — and the community is clearly just getting started. Keep an eye on Printables and the usual VR subreddits for new additions as the headset gains more traction.
