Starting today, we're making some changes to Pimax Prime based on user feedback. The TL:DR version is that for new orders, Pimax Prime can only be paid in one go. The option to pay Prime across 24 months is discontinued. There's thus no more 'subscription', but only a two-step payment for the Crystal Light, the Crystal Super, as well as the Dream Air and Dream Air SE. Here we'll explain why and how this follows user behavior and feedback.
It's been one year since we introduced Prime. Prime has several purposes, such as a lower entry barrier and a flexible try-out policy for Pimax VR headsets. Users pay the base price to receive the headset at home, and can try out the headset for 14 days. After 14 days, the headset can be returned to Pimax, or can be paid off through Pimax Prime. This is greatly appreciated by users. Virtual Reality is a highly subjective experience, as everyone's face shape and eye position is different. It's also hard to explain or convey in 2D videos or images what a headset experience is like, especially high-end Pimax headsets. And so, we encourage as many people as possible to try out virtual reality with our products, to experience the Pimax "wow" factor.
Originally, Pimax Prime could be paid in one go, as well as across 24 months. That last option is now discontinued.
This is done after our internal review, looking at feedback from users, and analysing actual user behaviour. By far, most users do not use the 24-month option. Not just that, most users do not like to see Prime as a subscription, but are fine with a split payment. Some users cite that they do not like the idea of being 'tied' to something (even if they can pay in one go), and other users are worried about the second-hand market, needing to check if a headset is paid off or not. Other users were confused by the 24-month option showing in Pimax Play. Users have also highlighted that banks or credit card companies already provide finance options for purchases. As such, we want to simplify the user experience, and have cancelled the 24-month payment option.
Meanwhile, users do appreciate the extremely flexible try-out policy, as well as a lower entry barrier to try out the headset. These benefits all remain. You can try out the Crystal Light and the Crystal Super for as low as $599 USD and $799 USD, respectively.
A few points to make:
-
Users who are paying in installments can continue to pay in installments.
-
Users who have already received their headset, but have not paid for Prime yet, can either pay for Prime in one go, or can contact our support or use Pimax Play chat to apply for a 24-month payment option.
-
Users who have an order from before June 19th, but have not received their headset yet, can either pay for Prime in one go, or can contact our support or use Pimax Play chat to apply for a 24-month payment option.
-
New orders can only use the base price + Prime (one-term payment).
-
The 14 day return policy remains.
