There are two pairs of lens modules in the Crystal box and they can be compatibilized with the Crystal headset.
Tech Specs
The data that the two lens modules can bring are:
Module 1 reaches 140° FOV (diagonal), 35 PPD
Module 2 reaches 120° FOV (diagonal), 42 PPD
Description
Design original intention
Crystal adopts an interchangeable lens design and is committed to solving the problem of VR multi-usage, providing users with a more reasonable, convenient and comfortable visual experience in work, study and life.
Through lens replacement, the angular resolution of Pimax Crystal can reach an astonishing 42PPD, which is the highest level that can be achieved in the known consumer-grade VR headsets. The PPD of the human eye is 60, and Crystal has reached 70% of the PPD of the human eye. As an all-in-one VR device, the clear effect is not insignificant. The 140° FOV (diagonal) and 35 PPD achieved by the other lens module are still far ahead of consumer-grade all-in-one VR headsets. The customized visual effects bring users a higher degree of freedom in VR experience, and can better meet the individual needs of users, and achieve the desired balance between FOV and clarity.

Lens Advantage Analysis
1 High light transmittance
The main material of Pimax Crystal lenses is optical glass, which has superior optical properties. The light transmittance and mechanical performance of the lens are particularly excellent. Not only does it have a constant refractive index and stable physical properties, but the light transmittance of the Pimax Crystal lens can reach 99% after optical coating so that the image received by the user can gets a wider color gamut and more vivid colors. The refractive index is higher, the lens is thinner, and the lens is also lighter, bringing a more comfortable wearing experience.
2 Lower distortion, fewer aberrations
It is worth mentioning that the Pimax Crystal lens uses a unique aspheric lens design. The Pimax Crystal glass aspheric lens has more negligible aberrations, which means that the image received by the user’s eyes is more consistent with the screen display, which effectively reduces blur and reduces the pressure on the anti-distortion algorithm, which can effectively save computing power. In the all-in-one mode, saving computing power in terms of graphics means that other parameters, such as refresh rate, can be improved. In the PC VR mode, saving computing power means that when other conditions remain unchanged, the performance requirements of the VR headset on the computer graphics card can be reduced, thereby lowering the threshold for using the headset and increasing the number of VR users. At the same time, Pimax will introduce a self-developed anti-distortion algorithm to increase the size of the sweet spot area, minimize edge distortion, and achieve a zero-distortion visual effect.
3 Anti-reflection
Crystal lenses have strong anti-reflection performance, mainly due to the three-layer nano-coating on the glass surface. The coating can use the principle of light interference to interfere with the light reflected from both sides of the film, thereby canceling each other out, reducing or eliminating the light reflection of the lens, then improving the light transmittance of the lens. Light is not easily reflected and refracted inside the lens, which effectively reduces negative effects such as ghosting and glare, making the visual effect of Pimax Crystal as clear and clear as crystal.
4 Anti-dust
The Crystal lens has been treated with nanometers and has a lotus effect, that is, it has a self-cleaning effect. This feature is applied to the glass so that the lens is not easy to be contaminated with dust. The three-layer coating process also brings anti-blue light, anti-dust, and anti-scratch effects to Crystal, which can effectively relieve users’ visual fatigue and improve the experience of using Crystal’s replaceable lens module.
5 High hardness
Finally, Crystal glass lenses have a high surface hardness and are more resistant to abrasion. Pimax R&D personnel use enhanced hardness treatment on the lens to make it have high strength toughness, strong impact resistance, not easy to break, scratch resistant, safer and more durable.
How to Change
1 Wipe the lenses. 2 Loosen the screws around the lenses on the headset with the screwdriver provided. 3 Gently pinch the edge of the lens holder, rotate the lenses and remove them. 4 Install the new lenses on the lens barrels, and gently press the edge of the lens holder to get a good match. 5 Fasten the screws.
