About overclocking the Pimax Portal

If you’re a serious gamer, you know that performance is key to a great gaming experience. And if you’re playing games on an Android handheld console, including our Pimax Portal, you may be wondering if there’s anything you can do to boost your device’s performance. The answer is yes – by overclocking your device, you can increase its processing power and potentially improve its performance.

What is Overclocking?

Overclocking is the process of increasing the clock speed of a device’s processor beyond the manufacturer’s recommended specifications. By doing so, you can increase the speed at which your device processes information and performs tasks. However, it’s important to note that overclocking can also increase the heat output of your device, which can potentially cause damage if you’re not careful. This is why overclocking falls outside of the warranty.

Overclocking for now

Before you start overclocking your Android handheld console, it’s important to understand that not all devices are created equal. Some devices may be able to handle higher clock speeds than others, and some devices may have better cooling systems that can help dissipate heat more effectively. So before you begin, it’s a good idea to research your device to see what kind of overclocking potential it has.

Once you’ve done your research, the first step to overclocking your Android handheld console is to download an overclocking app. There are a variety of apps available on the Google Play Store that can help you overclock your device, but some popular options include SetCPU, CPU Master, and No-frills CPU Control.

Pimax’s Martin writes:

“Overclocking is all about changing the frequencies of the GPU and the voltage parameters for each frequency. Thats all stored in the bot image/driver. When doing it with Konabess, it rewrites these parameters into the boot image. For that to be possible, you need to have the device rooted.

Now, since we are controlling our boot image and Kernel ourselves at Pimax, we could simply add those parameters (with or without Konabess) and make the OC values the default values for all retail units.
Then we add different OC profiles to the UI so that the default frequencies are on by default (587Mhz) but then there are also a few OC profiles for 720Mhz, 855Mhz, and maybe 905Mhz or higher. So that the user can switch between the profiles without even rebooting the device.”

Once you’ve downloaded an overclocking app, you’ll need to follow the instructions provided by the app to adjust your device’s clock speed. Generally, you’ll need to set the clock speed higher than the manufacturer’s recommended speed in order to see an improvement in performance. However, it’s important to be cautious when adjusting your clock speed, as setting it too high can cause your device to crash or become unstable.

Tips for Overclocking

If you’re new to overclocking, it’s important to take things slow and make gradual adjustments to your device’s clock speed. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Monitor your device’s temperature:
Overclocking can cause your device to heat up quickly, so it’s important to keep an eye on the temperature to make sure it doesn’t get too high. If you notice your device getting hot, you may want to consider investing in a cooling pad or fan.

Test your device:
Before you start playing games, it’s a good idea to run some benchmarks to see how your device is performing. This will give you a baseline for comparison and help you identify any potential issues with your overclocking settings.

Be patient:
Overclocking can be a trial-and-error process, so it’s important to be patient and not expect immediate results. It may take some time to find the right settings for your device, but with patience and persistence, you should be able to improve your device’s performance.

In conclusion, overclocking your Portal can be a great way to improve its performance and enhance your gaming experience. However, it’s important to be cautious and take things slow, as overclocking can potentially damage your device if done incorrectly. With the right research, tools, and patience, you should be able to successfully overclock your device and enjoy faster, smoother gameplay.
