openvr and openxr
Sorry for my poor english, i speak french.
I plan to buy a pimax crystal. I have a little bit of confusion regarding openxr and openvr. I plan to use my index controller and the face plate for bases stations. From what i understand, running a game that use openxr api, you would need to not use steamvr and use pimaxxr instead. Playing openxr games via steamvr would result in a loss of performance. Is that correct? If so, can you still use index controller if not using steamvr?
For a more concrete exemple, i have the game Hubris, on steam, witch use openxr. Can i run it without steamvr and still using base station tracking and index controller? If i need steamvr, will i loose performance then?
Also, what about openvr games? For exemple half-life alix, you have to use steamvr i guess? Is there a performance lost for using steamvr in openvr games?
Hello, we are glad to help you!
Crystal is currently using an inside-outside positioning solution, which is different from the traditional base station-led positioning solution.
We are planning to launch MR mask later. This will allow Crystal to support the use of base station positioning through the MR mask.
In the case of Crystal, we do not have official support for OpenXR or OpenVR at this time, and Crystal still recommends SteamVR to launch the corresponding game.
Regarding performance, this depends on your configuration in OpenXR and the optimization of different games, so we can’t give a general answer as to whether or how much it will drop, it’s more of a customization.
Thanks for your reply.
So if i understand correctly, to use index controller with pimax crystal, the MR mask is required and the use of steamvr. Is that correct? So trying to play an openxr game without steamvr will not works with the index controller?
Yes, indeed, if you must choose between OpenVR or OpenXR, we recommend that you use OpenVR, which is not officially supported but is already compatible.
The problem with the controller is indeed that you need to implement compatible Index controllers using the MR Mask.
