Upscaling for the Pimax Crystal
We're ready for beta testing of the upscaling mode on the Pimax Crystal. If you wish to join this program with early access, please email your emailaddress with which you registered your Pimax Play account, and the Serial Number from your headset, to calvin.yau@pimax.com
Upscaling originally launched only for the Crystal Light, to make PCVR more accessible for low and medium GPUs. But after customer feedback, we are soon adding this feature to the original Crystal as well.
Pimax Sync 2024
Pimax recently held the Sync event, where we shared updates on progress in various areas. We have also already made an update FAQ answering the most commonly asked questions. Read more here, with in-depth insights into the Crystal Light, Crystal Super, 60G Airlink, Pimax Prime membership program, and more. Whether you're exploring the most budget-friendly Pimax headset or the world's first retina-level VR experience, this FAQ is your go-to resource for all the answers.
About the 50 PPD QLED lenses of the Crystal Super
We want to highlight one aspect of the 50 PPD QLED version of the Crystal Super. We are still fine-tuning some details before mass production and shipping. (The 50 PPD — unlike the 57 PPD — is shipping in March rather than January 2025).
In our Sync presentation from last month, we spoke mainly about the 57 PPD version of the Crystal Super (which is the world's first retina level VR headset). And we mentioned a separate 50 PPD QLED version will be available.
The 50 PPD glass lens has been successfully developed, but due to achieving its extra wide field of view, its diameter is much larger than the 57PPD lens. This brings us concerns in terms of weight, and how it affects the wearing experience of some users. We are also synchronously developing and verifying a fusion type of lens, made of glass and other materials, striving to balance the weight and optical experience, for the best user experience.
(The 57 PPD QLED version's aspheric lenses are glass and this remains unchanged. We recommend the 57 PPD version, because it's still an incredibly wide FOV at 120 degrees horizontal, with an unreal sharpness of the image.)
